Affinity designer text to curve free
Knowing how to do this can enhance your ability to design logos, emblems, and badges. Wrapping text around a circle with Affinity Designer is very similar in function to the process you would use to do the same with Adobe Illustrator.
The following is a written overview of all the different ways you can place text on a path with Affinity Designer. However, you may find that a video tutorial is more suitable for this sort of lesson.
If that is the case for you then there is a video tutorial below where I walk you through each of the steps laid out below.
For this demonstration I will be wrapping the text around a circle with Affinity Designer. However, this method works the same with any other path. If your path is not selected then you will not be able to place text along it. Once the cursor has been placed over a valid path, you will notice the cursor changes from a letter A to a letter T with a squiggly line under it. The cursor change is confirmation that you are clear to place your text along the path.
Go ahead and click the path. You will notice a blinking cursor that appears on the path indication that you can begin typing. At this point you can add your own stylings. Simply triple-click the text to select it, then choose your font and size using the settings in the toolbar just above the artboard. When you first curve text with Affinity Designer, the text will be placed either along the inside or the outside of the path.
This depends entirely on what part of the path you initially clicked on. This will reposition your text from the outside of the path to the inside of the path. This works in reverse as well. The Reverse Text Path button can also change the position of the text from the inside of the circle to the outside of the circle.
When you curve text with Affinity Designer, you may notice that the base of the text is where the text will be placed on the path.
This can be adjusted by changing the value of the Baseline input in the toolbar above the artboard. The slider can be used to manually adjust the baseline so that the text is placed along the outside of the path, but relative to the top of the text rather than the bottom:. Whenever you place text along the inside of a path, you may notice that the reduction in space results in a reduction of space between the letters as well. Fortunately, this can be easily fixed.
To adjust the spacing between the letters of your text, triple-click the text to select all of it, then hold Alt on your keyboard and use the left and right arrow keys to increase and decrease the spacing between the letters. The left arrow reduces spacing between the letters, whereas the right arrow increases the spacing:. This may be required if you plan editing the vector document with another application at a later point.
Finally, it should be noted that once you convert your text to curves, you can no longer edit it. Alternatively, you can also save a copy of the design with the text editable and one without. Knowing how to curve text with Affinity Designer is simply a matter of using the built-in text tool, and then adjusting the handles accordingly. In short, CorelDRAW may not be the “best” at any one thing, but overall this is solid, well functioning and professional grade software for designers that’s got a lot to recommend it. Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator were pioneers in their respective fields of image editing and vector graphics. But when InDesign opens in new tab arrived on the scene in , it was somewhat late to the party.
The market for desktop publishing software at that time was dominated by QuarkXpress. But InDesign quickly took over, largely because of its lower price. Nowadays, of all design apps for Windows, InDesign remains the industry standard for print publishing. And it’s evolved over the years to include some pretty nifty digital publishing features too.
When we last tested it, we loved the collaboration tools, and the fact it switches seamlessly from digital to print. Since then, the main recent innovations have been small but important ones, such as support for endnotes and better font filtering, as well as better integration with the Creative Cloud. But on the whole, Adobe has avoided too much radical change. Updates continue are constantly being made, but they tend to be granular, rather than groundbreaking.
An update this April, for example, introduced the ability to map the optical size of your text to automatically set the font size. For those new to it, though, the interface is not that intuitive and so there is a bit of a learning curve.
Head to our InDesign review to read more. Launched in , Affinity Publisher opens in new tab is a low-priced alternative to InDesign, and the sister app to Affinity Designer and Affinity Photo. We loved it in our testing, finding it simple to master, intuitive and easy to integrate with other Affinity apps. One of the cheapest design apps for Windows around, Publisher enables you to work with dynamic photo frames, tables, baseline grids and linked resources, all backed up with end-to-end CMYK, and headline features include advanced typography options, linked text frames, master pages, and facing page spreads.
Nor is it as powerful or feature-rich as InDesign. For more in-depth opinion, check out our Affinity Publisher review. Launched in , Adobe XD opens in new tab is a vector-based UX design tool that’s popular for creating website wireframes and animated, click-through prototypes.
Although you don’t need a Creative Cloud subscription to use it, we found XD makes it easy to pull in existing design work from other Creative Cloud apps, such as Photoshop or Illustrator, plus there’s a free companion app that lets you preview your work on iOS or Android devices. There’s a free version of Adobe XD, which give you access to a limited number of fonts and 2GB of cloud storage.
With a subscription to the full version, meanwhile, you’ll get access to the Adobe Fonts Portfolio, GB of cloud storage, plus unlimited editors, shared documents and shared links. Our testing found XD was a powerful tool on launch — we especially liked that you can import content from other Adobe apps — and Adobe has continued to add newer and better features on a regular basis.
For example, you’ve been able to use voice commands, keyboard input, and gamepad input to trigger between states of components in your prototypes. And that’s good news for PC users looking for design apps for Windows, because not only has rival UI app Sketch not developed a Windows version, it’s ruled out doing so opens in new tab.
Find out more on our Adobe XD review. Photoshop Elements opens in new tab is a raster graphics editor for entry-level photographers, image editors and hobbyists that, we found, contains most of the features of the professional version, but with fewer and simpler options.

Plus there’s a broad and enthusiastic worldwide community behind it, so if you run into trouble, it’s easy to get help and support. The main downside of Inkscape, and the reason you might prefer to pay for a more sophisticated tool instead, is the speed of its operation, which is relatively slow and clunky. As always, though, that depends on the equipment you have. The basic version of Canva is free, but you need to take out a subscription to unlock all the features, and access unlimited folders and thousands of templates.
I used to be able to break an anchor, to a letter, lets say, and as I deleted the anchors, the two parts of the letter, would be truly disconnected.
Now the letter stays connected, regardless of breaking it; how I have no idea. Workflow is seriously impeded. What is going on? Out of all of them, Affinity Designer on the iPad has proven itself to be a workhorse. I have put it through the fire, doing some annotated Concept Drawings on the iPad, and it worked with no problems whatsoever. I especially like the fact that the controls were quite similar to the Desktop version, which made it easy for me to navigate between the Personas.
All files are native Affinity files that can be seen not just on the Mac, but also on the iPad. The left arrow reduces spacing between the letters, whereas the right arrow increases the spacing:.
