Ajijic Society of the Arts

Who We Are

THE AJIJIC SOCIETY OF THE ARTS (ASA) is a membership organization for artists working in all media in the Lake Chapala area of Jalisco, Mexico. Established in 1986, our Society encourages artists of all levels to develop their talents, and provides and promotes events to showcase their work.

ASA is also a social and educational network, helping members share their creative techniques and inspiration with each other to further individual artistic growth and ability.

Part of ASA's mandate is to contribute to the community. We do this by participating in the Lake Chapala Society’s Children’s Art Program, and by sponsoring their annual summer Art Camp – to help foster the next generation of Lakeside artists.

Membership in the Ajijic Society of the Arts

ASA currently has well over 225 members! Why not join this vibrant Lake Chapala arts community?

A one-year membership is only $300 pesos, and can be paid at monthly meetings (see below for details).

Our membership year runs from January 1 through December 31.

Members are allowed to display their artwork on the Gallery page on this site, to sell their art on our online store, to have a link to their website on the Links page on this site, to access the ASA email Group, to participate in special events and trips, and to take part in regular shows and sales events held in the Lake Chapala area.

ASA Online Art Store

The Ajijic Society of the Arts has created an online art store where participating ASA artists can display their art for sale to the public. You can view the Home Page here: AjijicSocietyOfTheArts.com/store/

We do not currently have payment or shipping options for the art that you buy in our online art store. After checkout, you will receive an email with information on how to contact the artist to arrange to pay for, and pick up, your art.

ASA Monthly Membership Meetings

Our membership meetings are generally held on the first Monday of each month (except August) at:

La Bodega Restaurant, 16 de Septiembre #124, Ajijic
from 10am to Noon

La Bodega owners, Javier and Marta, have been most accommodating by providing ASA with meeting space. They open early for us, with coffee ready at 9:30am. Please join us!

ASA Garden Shows and Art Sales

The Ajijic Society of the Arts garden shows are generally held from October through March, on one Saturday of each month (they are advertised locally), at:

the Lake Chapala Society (LCS) – 16 de septiembre #16A, Ajijic

Member artists will be on hand with displays of their painting, jewelry, photography, prints, fiber arts, and much more — all for sale in a beautiful garden setting!

ASA Art Shows at the Ajijic Cultural Center

Twice a year, the Ajijic Society of the Arts holds a major art show at the Ajijic Cultural Center.

The next show will be held from December 4 through December 16, 2021

Come and see a spectacular exhibition of the work of prominent local artists! Yes... most of the art is available to buy.

Annual ASA Art Walk

Because of COVID-19, the Annual Art Walk for 2021 has been CANCELLED — it should return in February 2022

Held every February, this two-day art event is the premiere art show of the year! It features about 100 artists in all mediums, displaying their works at over 30 locations around town. Many artists also conduct live demos of their process and techniques.
