Description

We visited Patscuaro earlier this year and wandered from garden to garden in Once Patios “11 Courtyards.” Built in 1742 by acquiring several neighboring homes, it boasted 11 courtyards at that time. It became the home for the Dominican sisters of Santa Catarina de Sena. Now only 5 courtyards remain, but each one is stunning in its own right. This one was my favorite.

Oh if walls could talk, what would they say? I adore the ancient age of Mexico and love every opportunity to bring attention to that old world aspect of my new home country. I love how these arches clearly served a purpose as a portal at some point in history, but the remains of them now are simply the bones of the garden that lend a sense of permanence to the courtyard. In their own way, they speak of the ancient age of this site. I hope you enjoy this watercolor.
