If you use bit Windows, use this one. Support for Boot Camp is here and includes a section on getting Mac hardware to run within Windows. Adding this last piece of software increases compatibility and allows you to use many more gestures and have more control over how the Apple Magic Trackpad works.

It is a little backward though. Magic Utilities is a third party software vendor that develops apps that help Windows and Mac play nicely together. While this is a premium product, the software does make it easy to use the Apple Magic Trackpad on your PC. Install the software, allow it access to Bluetooth and anything else it asks for and it finds the trackpad and works right away.

I only got to see this in action already installed but the configuration options are generous alone and I was assured installation and configuration was as easy as described. Use Boot Camp Control Panel to set the trackpad options instead. Dragging: Lets you move an item by tapping it, then immediately placing your finger on the trackpad and moving your finger.

Secondary Click: Lets you perform a secondary click by placing one finger in a corner of the trackpad and clicking. Choose the corner you want from the pop-up menu. In the Two Fingers section, select Secondary Click to be able to perform a secondary click by placing two fingers on the trackpad, then clicking.

To do so:. After you successfully installed the driver on your Windows PC, you can head to the Windows Settings to customize your trackpad. In the Touchpad settings, you can not only modify the the cursor speed, touchpad sensitivity, but also customize the functions of different kinds of taps, finger gestures!

Magic Utilities – Windows drivers for Apple input devices

 
 

Note: I have not tested this over Bluetooth. I keep my keyboard connected via the supplied lightning to USB cable. This is because Windows was using the default keyboard drivers. When I first started looking for solutions I found hacky, unsigned drivers and key mappers. These were not ideal. However, there is not an easy way to access them. Normally, Apple wants you to download and install a large suite of software and drivers meant for Boot Camp which will do all kinds of nasty things to your PC.

Thankfully, the keyboard and other drivers can be isolated and installed independently. If you want to skip this section, you can download the drivers I extracted from the bellow process and see if they work for you: BootCamp Because we are not going through Boot Camp, the first challenge is getting access to the Boot Camp drivers.

The easiest way to do so is to use the Brigadier program. This automatically locates the URL for a given Mac model and downloads and extracts the appropriate Boot Camp drivers. Download the latest exe from the releases page and run it like so:. I used this model because I wanted to ensure I got the latest drivers. This will create a folder next to brigadier. The numbers in the name will be whatever version of Boot Camp drivers were downloaded. Right-click Keymagic2. After installation is complete, unplug and re-plugin your keyboard.

To debug, check in device manager; “Apple Keyboard” should be listed under “Human Interface Devices”. By default, when the fn key is not held, the media keys will be activated. When the fn keys is held the F keys will be activated.

Poking around in the Boot Camp package, I noticed several other drivers of note. There are also some drivers that looked to be related to Apple Mice, Trackpads, Cameras, Displays, etc:.

This is not a full list of drivers. Just the ones I found interesting. I have not tested any of these. Brigadier uses this XML file at the time of writing, subject to change to locate the correct package. Downlad the. Unplug and re-plugin your keyboard.
